Covid-19: Over 2 million Kenyans vaccinated as 21 test positive

Kenya has so far administered 5,990,974 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, 3,884,449 have been partially vaccinated while 2,106,525 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 50.7 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 7.7 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.

Covid-19 numbers

Kenya also recorded 21 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 2,709 raising the country's caseload to 254,297.

In a statement on Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 0.8 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,770,062.

Out of the new patients, 14 are male, whereas seven are female, with the youngest carrier being an 11-year-old child, and the oldest aged 77.

Of the new cases, one is a foreigner while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 7 cases, Uasin Gishu and Kiambu 3 new cases each, Migori and West Pokot 2 cases each, Kitui Mombasa, Nakuru and Bungoma 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll still stands at 5,316 after no deaths were reported from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 247,370 after 12 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 10 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while two patients are from health facilities across the country.

Of the total recoveries, 200,054 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 47,591 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 392 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,031 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Twenty-six (26) patients are in the ICU, 12 of whom are on ventilatory support and 14 on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 112 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 110 of them in the general wards while two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
