Nairobi is in the process of digitising hospital processes in all the county facilities as a way of ensuring efficient service delivery.
All the 120 hospitals under the Governor Mike Sonko administration will have their records digitised which the governor believes will improve effectiveness.
Sonko said once complete, the system will ensure effective management of drugs at the facilities, record all the patients served at the facilities daily.
He said such will curb cases of theft in hospitals and ensure that the county government gets records of all the things that happen within the health sector.
“We must all embrace changes in technology. Proper healthcare service is a right to every Nairobian. Therefore, we must all strive to achieve this,” he said.
One of the targeted hospitals is Pumwani Maternity which once featured in the limelight due to poor management and the governor had to intervene.
The hospital County hospital delivers about 70-100 children are delivered daily at the facility.
Governor Sonko said without proper records, the county might fail to deliver in its mandate of ensuring quality healthcare service to all the residents.
“Numbers do not lie. We want to have data on everything that happens within our facilities so that we can know when to expand; when to increase medication, when to do reshuffles and so on,” he said.
Acting County Executive Member in charge of Health Charles Kerich confirmed that the hospital is undergoing a major facelift.
“We are working round the clock to oversee the transformation of the Pumwani Hospital and all other public health facilities within Nairobi,” said Kerich.
Kerich said as the county focuses on improving the infrastructure, they are also focusing on increasing the qualified personnel in all the facilities.
“We shall also employ more doctors, nurses and other health officers in all Nairobi hospitals,” he said.
Other major hospitals undergoing renovations are Mama Lucy Hospital and Mbagathi Hospital.
