Kenyans will soon enjoy affordable kidney transplants courtesy of Nairobi West Hospital that recently acquired a multi-million shilling modular theatre.
Additionally, the hospital is conducting spine surgeries. On Friday, the hospital Chief Operating Officer Tina Saini said it costs about Sh2 million to undergo a kidney transplant abroad.
“We have modern machines using the latest technology ideal for transplants. The modular theatre is designed and equipped to drastically minimise infections and therefore reduce the rate of rejection,” said Ms Saini.
She noted kidney transplants are done in a few local hospitals and Nairobi West Hospital wants to make the procedure affordable.
Currently the number of people who fly out for kidney transplants is in hundreds. The hospital is striving towards providing kidney transplants at Sh500,000.
One of the theatres has coated stainless steel walls to reduce reflection during laparoscopic procedures.
