There's one question on people's lips when they find out someone is pregnant - is it a boy or a girl.

The world eagerly awaited this news following the birth of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's first child.

But when it comes to the parents, not everyone wants to know in advance.

One mum has actually been left feeling "devastated" after potentially discovering the sex of her unborn child and it's sparked a heated conversation online.

The expectant mother, who already has two children, is called Emma and she blames technology for ruining her surprise.

In a post on Netmums, Emma revealed she recently went for her 20 week scan.

She and her partner told their nurse at the beginning of the meeting that they didn't want to know the baby's gender.

However at the end of the scan, the mum-to-be noticed something on the monitor, which appeared to reveal the sex of her child.

And as if to confirm this, she claims the nurse attempted to hide the screen from her shortly afterwards.

Emma explained: "We had our 20 week scan today. We told the lady at the very start we didn't want to know the sex. However, at the end of our healthy scan she changed the screen and a blue report style screen remained.

"On the top right corner of it was a box that clearly said SEX: FEMALE which I couldn't help be left staring at in shock. When she realised I was standing looking at the screen she quickly changed it.

"My husband was totally unaware of it all."

She added: "I am just devastated to have possibly found out our baby's gender like this. Especially as this is our last child and we already have two amazing little girls who we adore and we're secretly hoping for a boy.

"My family have said it might have been my details, but then why would she hide the screen so abruptly once she clocked me?

"Has anyone got any concrete idea on whether this would have been my/baby's details? I just want the truth now I guess rather than people trying to make me feel better. Just feeling a bit low wehn I should be delighted with my healthy scan."

Many people took the time to respond to the concerned mum, with some saying it was likely her own details.

Others told her not to worry about it - all that mattered was the baby's health.
