Kirinyaga, Kenya: A disciplinary committee at the Kerugoya Level Four Hospital has cleared a nurse of responsibility for the death of an 80-year-old granny on Wednesday last week.
Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Gideon Mburu, however, said the nurse was found guilty of using abusive language to both the patients and their relatives.
He said the committee met in the presence of the late Sophia Nyawira’s immediate family and after evaluating her treatment record it was established that she died due to her ailment.
“We had a team comprising a senior medic in our facility, Dr Virginia Karanja, the hospital’s nursing officer and the hospital administrator as well as some immediate family members of the late Sophia and after evaluation, the nurse was not found guilty of any professional negligence,” Dr Mburu said.
The medic did not, however, specify what measures would be taken against the nurse over her conduct while dealing with patients upon being found guilty of using abusive language.
On Wednesday, Sophia’s daughter Ms Jenifer Wairimu accused the nurse of insulting her.
