Kenya: The Senate Committee on Health, Labour and Social Services has announced that all medical staff will from early next year get their pay through their respective county governments.
The chairman of the committee Mohamed Kuti said plans to transfer the pay rolls of the medical staff are ongoing to ensure the processing of documents is completed by the end of this year
Dr Kuti, who led other members of the committee made the remarks yesterday when senators visited Kilifi County Government Hospital and held a meeting with senior staff of the hospital in a forum attended by the county Governor Mr Amason Kingi.
The committee said all medical services are being devolved to the counties and soon all counties will be manning medical services at county level.
“Plans to transfer the payrolls of all medical staff from the government are ongoing and we expect all that work will be ready by the end of this year for the staff from counties to get their salaries direct from their respective counties,” said Kuti.
The committee further announced that operations at Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) were being streamlined to enable county governments have powers to make direct purchasing and supply of drugs to all health centers under each county. He noted that purchase and supply of drugs has not been well addressed.
