Mystery surrounds the beheading of a 50-year-old man in Emukangu village in Emuhaya, Vihiga County.

Police are searching for the missing head of Alfred Esibala, whose body was found in his bedroom on Thursday. The scene had no blood, according to area Deputy County Commissioner Chuk Masau, indicating that the man might have been killed elsewhere.

“We urge anyone with information that will help us arrest the suspects to give it out,” said Mr Musau yesterday.

Lydia Eshikuri, the victim’s mother, said she was shocked to find the body of her son in bed with the head missing.

“I had gone to sell milk in the morning when a neighbour broke the sad news. I could not believe what I saw when I arrived. I searched everywhere in the house but I could not find the head,” she said.

“All I want is the police to assist us to get the head. I want to bury him together with the head.”

Police are also investigating claims that the incident could be a ritual murder. “We shall do everything within our power to have the suspects arrested and the head recovered,” said Masau. Area MP Omboko Milemba likened the act to an attack that left five guards dead at the Kilingili Trading Centre in March 2019.

“We cannot watch as our people are slaughtered at night like goats. The government has a responsibility to protect the lives of its citizens and that is what I demand from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki,” said Milemba, who also visited the home.
