Signs your friend wants to call it quits

A solid friendship is something that cannot be easily replaced. It’s very fulfilling to know that you have close buddies you can rely on, open up to and also enjoy some fun moments together.

But, there comes a time when you can sense that something is off. Things are not the way they once were at the beginning. It hurts when you notice that you might be in the process of being ghosted without being given the chance to understand or ask why.

Sadly, friendship breakups happen all the time and it can literally feel like your heart is breaking. When you see these five signs, it may indicate that your friend has checked out and may dump you at any time:

They no longer communicate frequently

When you’re close to someone, it will be hard for you to go a long time without at least sending them a text, calling or tagging them in a meme. And one sign that obviously shows something isn’t right is less communication.

Sometimes people get busy and all but surely, sending a simple message only takes a few seconds. If they’re not interested in even checking up on you and you’re the one putting in most of the effort, they might be over the friendship.

They have secretly unfollowed you or deleted your number

Our phones have made it so easy to know where you stand with someone. A person who doesn’t want to be your friend won’t bother keeping you on the friend’s list on social media and they might even delete and block your number.

Once you notice this, the message is clear. If they’re no longer your friend on social media and you can’t see their profile picture and status on WhatsApp, they might be done.

They don’t bother to plan dates

You can tell that you’re close with someone if they put in the effort when it comes to dates. They will even be so excited to catch up with you especially if you haven’t been able to meet up in a long time.

The opposite happens when this person doesn’t want to be your friend anymore. They won’t initiate any plans and if they do, they will keep flaking on you as a way of avoiding you.

Being around them feels awkward

You can also check how they act when they’re around you to get your answer. If previously you would have enjoyed spending time together but now things don’t feel right, it’s a sign.

You might notice that they no longer want to sit next to you on group dates or that they’re starting arguments and criticizing you.

If they’ve changed how they behave towards you, it is not good news for your friendship.

They keep posting indirect messages online

At the end of every year, you will always spot those 'new year-new me’ posts. People talk about how they’re ready to cut off people and this can give you a clue if your buddy has been doing this lately.

Of course, it doesn’t always mean that it’s you they’re talking about if they’re posting these messages. But if you’re seeing this sign plus other signs like the ones above, they might be preparing to disappear from your life.
