Six signs you are getting over someone

Break ups are hurtful and your are bound to go through motions of anger, denial and bargaining (Shutterstock)

Despite how your relationship came to an end, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel can be quite a challenge.

You sit alone contemplating sending an ‘I miss you,’ text then you quickly talk yourself out of it. You can’t stop wondering if they have moved on or maybe the two of you can give it another shot.

As you wait for time to heal your wounds you hope it won’t take half the time you were together. Gladly, that is just a theory.

But factoring in the time and emotions you invested, you will go through the motions of anger, denial and bargaining which is quite normal. Listening to that song on repeat may be your remedy or lying in bed for days mopping over lost time.

Well, you must go through the pain and once it is over here is how you will know you’re getting over them.

1.You feel nothing when you hear their name

Life can play games with us sometimes. You could be walking then hear someone call out your ex’s name or worse still, a family member or friend who has no idea of your breakup asks about them.

When his or her name comes up and you’re not overwhelmed with feelings of sadness, anger, resentment or self-pity, you’re getting over them.

2.You stopped talking about him

To anyone who could lend you an ear, you couldn’t stop going on and on about what your ex did, why she didn’t deserve you, this and that.

Once you stop using your friends to vent and analyze everything that went wrong with your relationship count it as a positive step to moving on.

3.You don’t think about them

If you have ever been in a breakup you know that the first thought that comes to mind when you wake up was that of your ex as tears trickled down the face.

For the first few weeks you couldn’t stop thinking about your failed relationship and what you could have done or said to change the outcome.

But when the tape finally stops playing and you rarely think about them, you’re healing.

4.You deleted their stuff

Holding on to memories may feel like the right thing to do at the moment hoping something may change. However, it does more harm than good. The ritual of reading those messages or emails in bed at night will only bring back unwanted nostalgia.

But if you find yourself lying in bed flipping pages of your favorite magazine and having deleted all their communication, you’re moving on.

5.You don’t stalk them anymore

If you find yourself going through a whole day without checking their Facebook or Instagram that is a sure sign you are getting over them.

You could care less about what they’re doing and you have unfollowed and unfriended them.

You are too caught up with what is going on in your life you even stopped asking your mutual friends about them.

6.Love songs don’t affect you

Gone are the days every love song you danced to would make you break down and feel low. Now, you can happily sing along without thinking about them.
