'My boyfriend's banned me from wearing tampons and says he'll dump me if I don't stop'

A man has been slammed after he revealed that he'd dump his girlfriend if she didn't stop using tampons.

The anonymous man explained that because his girlfriend is "forgetful" and doesn't change her tampons very regularly, he fears the unhygienic habit could lead to health problems like Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), a rare and potentially life-threatening problem caused by tampons that are left in the vagina for too long.

He said: "I have no issue with women using tampons. I have an issue with HER using tampons. I have a few reasons for this.

"She doesn't change them regularly enough in my opinion", he continued: "I think it's a forgetfulness thing?

"She doesn't take risks seriously. This stresses me out because I'm worried she will get sick.

"However I have never made demands before recently."

After a "traumatic" ordeal the month before, when she was forced to seek medical help, he demanded that she stop using them altogether.

But his girlfriend doesn't agree with him.

"She is furious with me. Says I’m being controlling. Says a man should not be demanding to women what sanitary products to use."

He then went a step further and said this was a "dealbreaker" for him if she didn't follow his rules.

"These are all things I agree with... usually. But I’m at a point where this is a hill I’m willing to die on and it may be a deal-breaker if she doesn’t agree to this."

He posted the confession on Reddit, where he asked users whether he was being out of order, and the majority of people took his girlfriend's side.

One said: "You do not need to micromanage her period.

"Write that down and every time you get the urge to forbid her from tampons, read it and then sit back down."

While another said: "It seems like you’re well-meaning, but this isn’t really your call to make. How would you feel if she asked you to stop using toilet paper because she thought you 'used it wrong'?"

And a third added: "You can express your worries but you don't get to forbid her or require her to do something different with her body and body functions."

But others agree that he has a reason to be worried as she's being "irresponsible."

One wrote: "I could not disagree with this more. As a loving partner in a relationship, he can totally ban his gf from doing something that is harmful.

"This is taking 'her body, her choice' way too far, and out of context.

"She is repeatedly doing something that could end up being fatal.

"You're right that it should be an ultimatum, either she looks into using different products, or proves she can use tampons correctly or he leaves her."

And a second person said: "This irresponsible girl is going to get toxic shock & this guy won't have a gf. He has a really valid reason to worry.

"I understand why he's saying she shouldn't wear them because honestly she really shouldn't. She can't handle it."
