Garlic mashed potatoes are a healthy tasty meal you can easily prepare at home for family and friends.

The recipe was first famous in Ireland before being a worldwide favourite, since then lots of people are seen making it and love its simplicity.

Mashed potatoes have been a comfort food for hundreds of years but different twists are being made to it so as to spice it up such as the use of red potatoes, the addition of mixed herbs and spices or adding garlic, and chives.

To make garlic mashed potatoes you will need the following ingredients:

kg of potatoes

1 cups whole milk

4 garlic cloves

Garlic powder

50 g of butter

Salt to taste

Onion powder (optional)

Chives (garnish)

Instructions:

Peel your potatoes and soak them for a while in cold water, this prevents the potatoes from browning.

Cut your potatoes into quarters and then drain the water. In a large pot pour in your potatoes, add in a pinch of salt and water that fully covers the potatoes.

Cook your potatoes for about 15 to 20 minutes or until you can pierce them easily using a fork. As you wait for your potatoes to boil finely chop your garlic cloves and transfer them to a saucepan.

To the garlic add your milk and cook it on low heat until you see steam. Drain your potatoes and use a potato masher to mash them well ensuring there are no lumps left.

Strain your garlic milk then pour it in your potatoes as you mix them.

Continue mashing the potatoes until they are creamy, add in your butter, and garlic powder and stir well to fully incorporate it into the potatoes.

your potatoes are now ready to serve, place them in serving bowls and garnish with chives for a pop of colour and diversity of flavour.

Garlic mashed potatoes can be served with beef or chicken curry or mixed vegetable stew. Enjoy!
