Police in Naivasha are holding four students who were arrested with a toy pistol.

The four were apprehended after they tried to force their way into a supermarket along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

On being questioned, the four could not account for their school absence and the reason for carrying the toy pistol.

A police source said that the toy had been laminated with black masking tape. He said that they suspect that the four could be behind a series of robberies in the town.

"The four students could not explain why they were out of school, or reasons for carrying the toy pistol and we suspect they had an ulterior motive," said the officer.

Confirming the arrest, Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru said DCI officers are investigating if the teenagers were involved in crimes in the area.

"The stories these minors are giving are not adding up and they shall definitely be arraigned in court," said Waweru.

Meanwhile, police have recovered two trucks that had been stolen in Mai Mahiu.

The trucks were recovered in Narok while en route to a neighbouring country. The suspects behind the robbery, however, managed to escape.

"We suspect that some drivers are working with these suspects and it's a matter of time before we catch up with them," said Waweru.
