The irony in Koffi Olomide deportation

Living

Last weekend, Kenyans were to be entertained by rumba maestro Koffi Olomide.

Unfortunately, Mr Olomide was deported for kicking one of his female singers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. This incident created public outrage on social media.

The main reason behind his deportation was what the government of Kenya termed as violation of women's rights. This is what made me rather perplexed. I do not support any conduct that may violate the Constitution but there is irony in Olomide's deportation.

How many times have we violated the Constitution and especially the Executive arm of the government?

Was it justifiable by the same Constitution that primary school children in Lang'ata upon demonstrating against alleged land grabbing came face to face with police brutality?

Truth be told, Kenya is a nation of hypocrites who are ready to point an accusing finger.

We have on several occasions violated the Constitution but we want to show the whole world that we strictly adhere to the principles of democracy and human rights.
