Coast Swimming Club set for Nairobi gala

Coast Swimming Club will represent Mombasa during the Nairobi International Invitational swimming gala set for November 29 and 30 at Kasarani.

Club patron, Mehboob Harunani, yesterday said the outfit will enter a strong squad for the Nairobi event, which has attracted teams from Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and hosts Nairobi.

The club, fresh from breaking two national records, has remained unbeaten at the last three meetings they have featured the past month.They are looking to maintain the winning run in the Nairobi event.

The club scooped the overall title during the Coast Amateur Swimming Association (Casa) Age group and Relay championships held at Oshwal Academy, Nyali.

During the Coast Invitational junior swimming gala organised by the club, the boy’s swimmers once again dominated the event and won the overall title.

NATIONAL RECORDS

And in last weekend’s Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) national age group and relay championships held at Oshwal Community swimming pool, the club broke two national records.

The outfit shattered the 4x100m relay record set by St Mary’s School of Nairobi in 1977. Mombasa swimmers set a new record of 4.31.47.

In the 4x200m competition, the club set a new record of 10.19.20 after erasing the previous record of 11.58.51 set by Bandari School Club.

The club won the boys’ overall title with 605 points, with Mombasa’s Aga Khan Academy and Oshwal Academy clinching the second and third . Coast Swimming Club did not enter girl’s swimmers.
