Plums are a group of deciduous fruit trees bearing succulent, round or oval fruits which come in different shades, from vibrant reds to golden yellows.

Scientifically known as Prunus domestica, plums are typically between two to seven centimetres in diameter.

They have smooth, glossy skin with their flesh ranging from juicy and sweet to slightly tart, depending on the variety.

Their history in Kenya dates back to pre-colonial times when European settlers originally introduced the fruits to Kenya. Since they come in different varieties, the sweet and juicy ones are fit for fresh consumption while others are better suited for jams, jellies, and baking.

They come with numerous nutritional benefits including antioxidants, such as vitamin C and beta-carotene, which help combat free radicals and promote overall health.

Additionally, they are a good source of vitamins like A, K, and several B vitamins, contributing to better skin, vision, and overall well-being.

Did you know that plums are available year-round, with different varieties ripening at various times to ensure a constant supply of fresh plums throughout the year? Well, now you know.
