Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's dramatic departure from the Royal family is being given the Hollywood treatment and turned into a Lifetime TV movie.

Bosses at the TV network have been given the green light to start work Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace which will focus on the lead up to Megxit and the aftermath.

It's been given the title Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace and Lifetime bosses have promised the movie will reveal "what lead to the ultimate break from the royal ties".

A statement from the network added: "‘Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace reveals what really happened inside the palace that drove Harry and Meghan to leave everything behind in order to make a future for themselves and their son Archie.

"The movie will detail Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that 'The Firm' was not defending them against the press’s attacks and Harry's fear that history would repeat itself and he would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that caused his mother's untimely death.

"Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will also reveal the private family feuds between Will and Harry, Kate and Meghan, and Harry with Will and Charles, that lead to the ultimate break from the royal ties."

It will be Lifetime's third movie based on the couple's story, following 2018 instalment Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance and 2019's Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal.

The first movie featured a fictionalised version of how they met and the early days of their relationship, ending when they got engaged in November 2017.

Becoming Royal depicted the lead-up to the couple's May 2018 wedding and their first few months of marriage.

In the first film, Meghan was played Parisa Fitz-Henley with Murray Fraser as Harry, but the actors didn't return for the sequel which starred Tiffany Smith and Charlie Field in the lead roles.

Casting is said to be underway for part three, but it's not known whether any of the previous actors will reprise their roles.

Deadline.com reports production is due to begin in the coming weeks ahead of the movie's planned broadcast debut later this year.

News of the film comes less than two weeks after Meghan and Harry lifted the lid on Megxit in their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In the sit-down chat, the pair made a series of staggering claims about life in the royal family - alleging there were "conversations" about their son Archie's skin colour and suggesting the tot could be denied the title of Prince because of his mixed race heritage.

Meghan told Oprah she'd been left feeling suicidal during her pregnancy and her attempts to seek help were dismissed.

Harry also told the host he'd been cut off financially by his dad Prince Charles, and Meghan suggested the pair had married in secret three days before the royal wedding.

However, it has since been revealed the secret ceremony was just a blessing and they did tie the knot for real during the public ceremony.
