Prince Harry felt "isolated" in California during the coronavirus pandemic, a source has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex moved to the US with his wife Meghan and son Archie last year after stepping back from royal duties.

But being 5,000 miles away from home left Harry feeling "isolated" as he adjusted to life on the West Coast during the pandemic.

An insider told People magazine: "It was incredibly isolating for Harry - to be so far from home when all of this was going on.

"It's been a really tough year for him.

"Most people make adjustments to their lives slowly but for him everything just went at once."

A source close to the couple apparently reveals how they feel one year on from telling the world they were leaving royal life.

"Meghan and Harry took a huge leap of faith to embark on their new life," the source told the magazine.

"The year started out with a lot of excitement and anticipation.

"Harry was finally doing what he’d wanted to do for years, and to have Meghan and Archie with him was all he could have asked for."

The insider added: "Despite everything that has been going on this year, they don’t regret their move to the US; they love that they are able to focus on projects and causes that are important to them."

Harry and Meghan left the UK back in March, just as the coronavirus pandemic started to affect the country.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their plans to step back as "senior" royals, last year saying they wanted to become financially independent and split their time between the UK and North America.

After a showdown at Sandringham it was made clear, Harry would not be able to "pick and choose" his royal duties and would have to choose all or nothing.

The pair left the UK for the US and later secretly moved into a secluded mansion 90 minutes from Los Angeles with the help of Prince Charles and are now neighbours to Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres.

The swanky new Sh1.6 billion ($14.7 million) Santa Barbara mansion boasts a swanky library, cinema and spa, as well as nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms.

At the end of December they debuted their podcast Archewell Audio, which they made as part of a reported Sh4.4 billion (£30 million) deal with Spotify.
