Giving your kids medicine is a tricky task.

If they're not spitting it out everywhere, they're refusing to take it completely.

Well now, a mum has shared a simple trick to trick them into, not just taking it, but going back for more.

Nikki, who goes by the username @tinyheartseducation on Instagram, was struggling to get her 18-month-old poorly son to take his medication - until she whipped out her secret weapon - sprinkles.

In a clip that has been viewed more than 186,000 times on the app, mum-of-two Nikki, can be seen attempting to feed her baby his medicine.

As she offers him an orange syringe to take, he shakes his head fiercely.

Another attempt later and he still wasn't having any of it.

Then, Nikki pulls out a jar of hundreds and thousands.

Instead of trying to feed him the medicine through the syringe, she squirted it onto a spoon, shook some sprinkles on the top and attempts to feed him for a third time.

But not only did he eat the spoonful she gave him, but he wanted more, and went back to it two more times.

Captioning the video, Nikki wrote: "How smug is my face at the end. This is how you get your little one to take their meds."

She then adds: "It’s actually a great and versatile parenting methodology to use in any tricky situation: just add sprinkles.

"My mum should have patented this 34 years ago. This is how we were brought up taking our medication and when it tasted really bad, she’d add honey."

He even went back for more (Image: tinyheartseducation / Instagram)

For older kids, she suggested getting creative with the marketing, calling it "something appealing like unicorn potion, sprinkle syrup or dinosaur poop."

Since being posted, the hack has received almost 10,000 likes and hundreds of comments from followers who thanked her for sharing the technique.

One person said: "This tip is genius, thank you."

Another wrote: "I will definitely put this in the memory bank for future medicine refusals."

"Aw I wish I remembered this trick last week! Such a battle sometimes, hey?" said a third.

Whilst a fourth said: "I love the fact that he wanted more! I hope he feels better soon."

One parent asked: "What age she'd recommend using sprinkles, to which Nikki said: "Over one for sprinkles and honey I'd say but you could grind the sprinkles into dust and pop over will just take a bit more effort."
