Renowned actress Halle Berry recently opened up about her perimenopause experience and a wrong misdiagnosis that almost 'ruined' her relationship.
During Monday's appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the 58-year-old actress spoke candidly about menopause and the unexpected challenges it brought.
She recalled a particularly painful experience when she struggled to use the bathroom, a moment that turned out to be a trying time for her and her boyfriend, Van Hunt.
Berry, 54 at the time, says they were still in the prime of their relationship, on cloud nine and having the best time when they were confronted with the incident.
"I tried to go to the bathroom, and I couldn't go. It was so painful when I tried to let a little bit out. I couldn't go. It took me almost 10 minutes just to empty my bladder because it was so painful." She added, "Substances were down there that I had never seen before. And I thought, "What is this?"
According to Berry, as her symptoms worsened and things became so swollen down there, Van Hunt rushed her to the doctor, where she was told she had a really bad case of herpes.
This led to a tense 72-hour period of blame and confusion as they tried to figure out who was responsible. "We spent the next 72 hours doing the blame game, trying to figure out who gave it to me, who gave it to him," Berry recalled. Then, just a few hours later, her doctor called to clarify: "You do not have herpes."
That moment turned out to be a defining one for Berry, forcing her to confront her symptoms on her own. "That's when I came up with dry vagina syndrome that women have when they're in perimenopause. And I had all the symptoms of what that felt like, and I realised, 'Oh, I'm 54 years old,'" she admitted.

Berry also confessed that, until now, nobody had ever had a serious conversation with her about perimenopause.
