You don’t feel so beautiful in the morning, do you? What with the mussed up hair, bleary eyes, and no makeup! If you are not a morning person, you also feel out of sorts until you have that cup of coffee.

But just because you don’t wake up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put your best foot...or face forward.

Having healthy morning beauty habits is mandatory for a strong beauty routine. In addition to the basics of skincare, tweak your morning beauty routine by adding these habits:

Antioxidant serum

As you go through your day, your skin is exposed to the elements such as the sun’s rays, wind and pollutants. These elements can cause damage to your skin, causing rashes, acne, dryness, and even premature ageing.

Equip your skin to fight the elements by applying an antioxidant serum to your skin every morning. Common antioxidants in skincare contain Vitamin C and E, phloretin, ferulic acid and botanicals such as resveratrol, green tea and coffee berry.

An antioxidant cream will help your sunscreen be more effective, and in the long run, give your skin a youthful glow.

Eat protein

Are tea and bread your usual breakfast? Trade that for a cup of yoghurt, eggs and oatmeal. A protein-packed breakfast will help you cut down on sugar consumption –– hence less prone to acne. According to scientific studies, eating protein for breakfast will keep you fuller for longer and curb cravings. This means you are less likely to imbibe in junk food later on –- another win for your skin and overall health.

Tall glass of water

That groggy feeling in the morning can be partly blamed on dehydration –- especially if you have a drink before bed. After a full night of rejuvenating, your body is desperate for hydration in the morning.

No, your morning coffee won’t do the trick...and might even dehydrate you further. As soon as you wake up in the morning, have a tall glass of warm water to kick-start your metabolism and cleanse your system.

For an extra punch, squeeze some lemon into your morning glass of water. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water daily.

Take green tea

Swap your mug of coffee for a cup of green tea. This herbal tea is packed with antioxidants, flavonoids and polyphenols to help free radicals which cause cell damage. These elements also help prevent and fight inflammation –– which translates to less acne. Having green tea every morning will slow down the skin’s aging process and keep you looking youthfully radiant for longer.

Facial Mist

Do you wake up with a puffy face? Facial mist is the answer! Keep a bottle of facial mist in the fridge and spritz it on your face first thing in the morning. It will get rid of puffiness and leave you feeling bright and awake. If you don’t have a facial mist, chilled water will do just fine.

AM exercise

Usually, exercise in the evening after work? You might want to move your workout session to the morning. Studies show that working out in the AM helps people sleep better –– all the better for your beauty sleep. Scheduling your exercise session in the morning also means that you’re less likely to skip it.

Citrus fragrance

A great scent can help prep you for a successful day. Studies have shown that citrus-based sprays can help alleviate stress and even boost the immune system. Finish your morning beauty routine by spraying on a citrus-based perfume which will leave you feeling beautiful and ready to take on the world.
