Managing Your Money

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, most people have been working from home and you can say the conditions have not been favourable, with children running around just to mention but one of the distractions.

Furthermore, most people consider their homes a place to retreat to after a long day of work. The thought of setting up an office or a comfortable environment for work at work seemed like a pipe dream, until now.

With this pandemic taking over everything, working from home might become the new normal and it would be advisable to setup that home office.

Here are some tips to help you setup a home office on a budget:

Do the heavy lifting yourself

The first step to saving money, is working alone. Working alone isn’t literal, you can always consult with other people on how they went about the project and the best deals they got in the market when purchasing furniture and other stuff. Hiring someone to do all the heavy lifting is convenient but could be costly.

You can also decorate your office yourself. Be wary of the background because you will be making a lot of video calls with your colleagues or clients.

Buy from second hand shops

When setting up your home office space, buying new furniture can be quite costly, especially at a time like this when money is such a limited commodity.

However, thrift shops and flea markets can offer the perfect alternative to the bigger expensive shops.

These shops have a variety of items you can choose from and their prices are far much favourable.

Be creative with your space

You cannot build a whole new room or relocate your children to a room that doesn’t exist. You will have to work with the space you have, whether it is your own room or a portion of the guest room.

Work with what you have first, maybe start with a small table and a chair while you work on filling the space and giving it more structure over time.

Renovating the whole room can also be costly, so work around what you have to save you money. Also do research online on how to manipulate small spaces to your advantage.

Take your time

Setting up an office is not a single day’s project, it will take time. Do not pressure yourself into getting the best furniture and the perfect office at once. Take your time and cut your coat according to your size, you can buy stuff when you have the money.

Tip: Avoid infringing on the house budget to complete your personal project. You can always make a wish list of all the things you need and watch out for sales.
