A dad has been branded a 'legend' for his brilliant reply to his daughter's request to buy her some sanitary pads.

Twitter user Niamh posted a screenshot to social media of the message exchange with her dad, which has now had 6,500 retweets and 31,000 likes.

Stuck at work and with no chance to pop out before Sunday closing times, she texted her dad to say: "Can you get me some pads with wings before the shops close?"

Her dad replied in the shop with a photo of purple and green packaging, and the innocent question 'blackcurrant or lime?'

People loved his hilarious response and other users praised him, with one saying: "Dads like this are the best dads".

With others saying it was 'strange' that she had asked her dad to get female hygiene products, Niamh came back the perfect response.

"For all the people getting wound up about asking my own DAD for pads. 1) He’s only ever lived with females: my sister, my mum, his sister, his mum.

"2) I was at work until 5, shops close at 4 on a SUNDAY. I don’t drive, neither does my mum.

3) It’s 2019 not 1969."

Comments flooded in to support Niamh and her hero dad.

"The people posting negative comments need to pull their heads in," said one man. "I have three daughters aged seven, five and 20 months. No doubt I'll be in a shop picking up pads one day! Your dad sounds like a legend."
