How to avoid fats that are bad for you

Healthy Eating

You may imagine that your weight loss problems would be solved by eliminated fat from your diet, but we actually need fat to survive.

Fats are important for cell growth, to protect your organs and regulate your core temperature, to absorb nutrients and to produce hormones. However, not all fats are created equal.

Too many bad fats can cause cholesterol build up in your body, which can lead to heart attacks. Bad fats are saturated fats or trans fats and tend to be solid at room temperature. They are usually found in animal products and in processed foods.

Good fats are unsaturated, and when eaten in moderate quantities can actually lower cholesterol levels. They tend to be liquid at room temperature and include fats from nuts and seeds and fatty fish.

To minimise your consumption of bad fats, choose lean meats and cold-pressed oils.
