Best dressed at Golden Globes 2019 - Celebrities dazzle in sequins and metallics

Living

Colour returned to the Golden Globes red carpet this year with added sparkle.

The first ceremony of the Hollywood awards season sees all the A-listers spending months prepping themselves before the big night.

They undoubtedly splash out the average monthly salary just on a gown, spend almost half the day in hair and make up with their glam squad before documenting their journey to the bash on Instagram with the best champagne on offer.

If they manage to make it out the car without flashing anything and don't turn up in the same outfit as someone else then they're already halfway there to sparking a big 2019 fashion trend.

Sequins and metallics were the theme as stars dazzled on the red carpet.

So who were the best dressed celebrities at this year's Golden Globes?

Lady Gaga

The star arrived in a strapless lavender couture Valentino gown with voluminous sleeves.

Viewers watching at home were reminded of a gown Judy Garland wears in her version of A Star is Born.

Gaga is nominated for best actress in a drama for her role as pop star Ally in the modern version of the story, directed by and co-starring Bradley Cooper.

Thandie Newton

The British star looked sensational in a sequin silver cut-out gown which showed off her tiny waist.

The 46-year-old is up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Westworld.

Emily Blunt

The British star looked sensational in a gold embellished gown.

She is up for best actress in a musical or comedy for the title role in Mary Poppins Returns.

Emma Stone

The actress kept it simple and sparkly in a peach gown with embellished scalloped detail.

The Killing Eve star, who is hosting this year's awards, looked stunning in a floor-length white Atelier Versace gown.

The Canadian actress is up for best actress in a TV series for her role as MI5 agent Eve Polastri.

Lupita Nyong'o

The Black Panther star shimmied her way along the red carpet in a Calvin Klein by Appointment royal blue, fringed gown.

Rachel Brosnahan

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel lead is up for the best actress gong.
