Wingbacks aren't out of style yet!

Your Home

Wingback chairs are essentially called so because of their winged sides. These chairs have been used in English interiors from as early as 18th century. The classic wingback of yore had a high back and came in leather that aged well with daily use. The winged backs on these chairs were designed to protect against direct heat when sitting next to a fireplace. Even though fireplaces are rare in our Kenyan homes in this decade, wingbacks can still infuse character and charm into your home. Have you been eyeing this magnificent chair style but don't quite know how to use it? Here's how:

Mismatched dining set

Mismatched dining anyone? A pair of wingback chairs flanked on either end of your dining table will give you an eclectic look with an aura of sophistication. Pair the wingbacks with bare Windsor chairs or modern straight leg upholstered chairs.

In your living room

Wingbacks can be used in living rooms in different ways and to create different moods. Use a pair of low backs to mark the end of a big open plan living room. Dramatic wingbacks and high backs are better used along a wall or in room corners. Placing a cocktail table between two wingbacks immediately allows you to create a quiet conversation zone within a room.

In your bedroom

To fill up a large bedroom consider using a wingback chair. Chairs in bedrooms are perfect for relaxing, reading, sipping evening tea or sitting on while slipping on your shoes.

Next to your fireplace

If you are lucky enough to live in a house with a fireplace flaunt it with a pair of wingbacks and let the winged arms shield you as you warm the night away.
