Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will return to social media 'when it's right for us'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not quite turned their backs on social media and will return "when it's right for us".

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram after becoming fed up with the 'hate' they encountered online.

Harry and Meghan have not posted on their Sussex Royal Instagram account since March 2020.

In their final post, the couple said "while you may not see us here, the work continues" as they focused on their Archewell Foundation.

But it appears the couple are not quite ready to say goodbye to their millions of followers completely.

In an interview calling for urgent social media reform in the wake of the deadly Capitol Hill riots, the royal opened up on his own plans.

Prince Harry told Fast Company: "We will revisit social media when it feels right for us—perhaps when we see more meaningful commitments to change or reform—but right now we’ve thrown much of our energy into learning about this space and how we can help."

Harry added the couple wanted to be part of 'the human experience' and not 'a human experiment' as he urged social media users to stop scrolling.

The Duke of Sussex said the next step must be to hold social platforms accountable and warned "time is running out".

Meghan and Harry have both previously spoken of the difficulties of coping with the pressures and scrutiny they face.

The couple stepped down from royal duties last year and moved to the US with their son Archie.
