Man's awkward error on personalised glass for fiancée's 30th birthday

A man who wanted to surprise his girlfriend with a personalised gift has revealed the rookie mistake he made.

Daniel Varey purchased a gin glass for his fiancée Hayley Woodward's 30th birthday, and thought it would be a thoughtful touch to have a message engraved into it.

He tried to add 'happy 30th birthday princess' to the keepsake glass but accidentally ended up engraving it with the delivery instructions instead.

And the "very dopey" Daniel only realised what had happened the moment Hayley opened the gift and "burst into tears of laughter."

Self-employed skincare consultant Hayley admitted that although she expected Daniel to slip up somewhere along the line, his mistake "brightened her day."

In delicate white writing the glass read: "Can we have it delivered before Monday if possible as that's her 30th. Nice one" - oops.

Sky customer service representative Daniel didn't understand why the engraving company hadn't flagged the odd message - or the fact that he sent them a delivery note saying 'happy 30th birthday princess.'

And said: "I clearly messed up the [order form]. We laughed our heads off straight away. We saw the funny side of it.

"It was supposed to say 'Happy 30th Birthday Princess. Love you millions xxx'.

"There was a page that asked what you wanted on the glass and below there was an 'add a note for the business' section. I must have mixed them up.

"I only realised the morning she opened it. It was chaos."

Daniel from Manchester continued: "She was over the moon when she saw the gift bag, then when she opened it she started crying.

"She had tears coming out of her eyes. She was laughing her head off. It wasn't cheap - it cost £24.99. I got it gift-wrapped too.

"She's used to me being dopey by now. We've been together for four years.

"We'll be keeping the glass one billion percent. She'll always remember what I got her for her 30th now."

But that's not all - he also managed to send her a card with the wrong name on it too.

But despite the slip-ups she was "over the moon" after she saw that he had treated her to a new tablet and a Spanish holiday booked for 2021.

Hayley opened the gift in front of her mum on the morning of her birthday, after already opening her birthday card from Daniel which read 'my one and only, happy birthday Harry'.

She said: "It's brightened up a few people's days - including my own. Daniel's very dopey.

"I had a sneaky suspicion that there was something funny in the bag. He said I wasn't allowed to open it until my mum came outside.

"I had to go to the front door, my mum was on the other side of the street. My face was a picture.

"I was expecting 'happy birthday' or 'happy 30th' - but 'nice one' at the end is what got me.

"He also got me a Moonpig card and had no idea of his mistake because it was addressed to me, but I opened the card and apparently I'm called Harry now.

"I'll never forget it. It'll stay sat in the cupboard.

"Thankfully he managed to print my name correctly on the holiday booking.
