Tests on four suspected cases of Ebola have turned out negative to the relief of Kenyans.
Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said Monday the results of a fifth suspected case from Garissa County are still being awaited.
The fifth case that is being tested involves an individual who passed away in Garissa last week with symptoms similar to those of Ebola. The alleged death in Garissa was spread mainly through social media sparking fresh concerns that the deadly virus may have found its way to Kenya.
But Mr Macharia said there was little chance the Garissa death was due to Ebola since the person had not left the country in the last few months.
“If he had come from West Africa, we would be very worried and high chances would have been that he had Ebola,” he said.
On the four cases that were found negative, the Government had requested that repeat tests be conducted just to be sure.
