A taxi operator charged with drugging and raping a 20-year-old woman risks being sentenced to death if found guilty by a city court.
John Kamau Mwangi allegedly committed the offence on June 15 at Eastleigh Phase 3.
On the fateful day, at around 3pm, the woman allegedly approached Mwangi and asked him to drop her at the city centre, but she later fell asleep and woke up in an unknown location.
According to police records, Mwangi attacked and raped her inside his car before stealing her phone, Sh1,500 and her handbag valued at Sh13,800.
Her screams alerted members of the public who reportedly rushed her to hospital. Mwangi is said to have fled the scene, but was later arrested on June 17 after police circulated his car’s registration number.
He denied the charges and was released on a Sh1million bond. His case will be heard on October 29.
