456 contract virus as more males embrace second Covid-19 jab

The country has recorded 456 more Covid-19 infections from a sample size of 5,626 tested in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is now 8.1%.

So far, 149,326 Kenyans have received the second Covid-19 vaccine making up 15.1 percent of those who have received the first dose.

 As of today, a total of 1,138,748 vaccines have been administered across the country.

“The majority of those who received their second dose are males at 56.4 per cent while females are at 43.6 per cent,” the Ministry of Health said.

From the new infections, 424 are Kenyans while 32 are foreigners. The total confirmed positive cases are now 176,137.

However, seven more patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the cumulative fatalities to 3,428.

“One of them (the seven who succumbed) having occurred in the last 24 hours while 6 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in the month of June,” Health CS explained.

In terms of county distribution; Nairobi recorded 116 new infections, Kisumu 66, Busia 42, Siaya 30, Mombasa 28, Kilifi 26, Homa Bay 22 as the other counties had less than 20 infections each.

On the contrary, 535 patients have recovered from the disease, 439 from the home-based and isolation care program while 96 are from various health facilities countrywide.

The total recoveries now stand at 120,894 of whom 87,967 are from home-based care and 5 Isolation program, while 32,927 are from various health facilities countrywide.
