Covid-19: 14 succumb to virus as 111 more people test positive

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,073 on Monday, May 24 after 14 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

The country also recorded 111 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a positivity rate of 5.7 per cent, raising the country's caseload to 168,543.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections were discovered in 1,948 samples taking to the cumulated tests conducted so far to 1,783,374.

Out of the new patients, 62 are male, whereas 49 are female, with the youngest carrier aged two, and the oldest aged 89.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi leads with 52 cases, Machakos 11, Kisii 9, Siaya 7, Kericho 5, Homa Bay, Mombasa and Kiambu 4 cases each, Mandera 3, Nyeri and Migori 2 cases each, Kisumu, Kwale, Laikipia, Meru, Muranga, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kilifi recorded a case each.

The total recoveries so far stand at 114,679 after 142 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 137 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 5 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 83,353 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 31,326 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,086 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,770 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and twenty-one (121) patients are in the ICU, 25 of whom are on ventilatory support and 68 on supplemental oxygen. Twenty-eight (28) patients are on observation.

Another 86 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 79 of them in general wards and seven (7) in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has as of today, vaccinated 954,515 against the Covid-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 289,900 are aged 58 years and above together with others, Health workers are 164,054, teachers so far vaccinated are 150,303, security officers 80, 718 while 269,3541 are the other categories.
