Covid killing more people aged 60 and above than below

Another 1,091 people have tested positive for the coronavirus from 7,300 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

Kenya’s positivity rate is now at 14.9 per cent, going by the latest numbers.

The national tally as at April 9 is 144,154, while 1,549,388 samples have so far been tested.

In his daily brief, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe also confirmed that some five hundred and thirty-three patients have been discharged.

“297 from health facilities, and 236 from Home Based and Isolation Care,” he said.

This now brings total recoveries to 98, 183.

Kenya has lost another seventeen patients to the disease reported in the last 24 hours, and all having occurred in the last month.

The total Covid-19 fatalities are now 2,309.  

According to the CS, persons above 60 years’ account for more fatalities. For instance, of the 17, eleven are aged 60 and above.

Some 1,605 patients are currently admitted in various hospitals across the country. “4,233 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 236 patients are in the ICU, 45 on ventilatory support and one hundred and fifty-nine patients on supplemental oxygen,” Kagwe noted.

The Ministry is observing thirty-two patients.

Vaccination

A total of 422,021 people have so far been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine:

238,522 (56.5 per cent) are men and 183,499 (43.5 per cent) are women.
