Covid-19:12 more die as Kenya records 413 new cases

Kenya has recorded 413 new Covid-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours raising the country's total caseload to 77, 785.

In a statement sent to media houses by the Ministry of Health on Monday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) said the new cases are from 3,489 samples which push the country’s cumulative tests to 843, 103.

In terms of gender, 254 are male and 159 are female while the youngest case is five-year-old and the oldest is aged 99.

Of the new cases, 399 are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners.

On a positive note, 396 patients recovered with 326 on the home-based care programme while 70 were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 51, 903.

On a sad note, Kagwe said 12 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing Kenya’s fatalities to 1,392.

Fifty-two are patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of which 32 are on ventilatory support while 16 are on supplemental oxygen.

In the supplementary Oxygen, the country has 86 patients 76 of whom are general wards while 12 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)

A total of 1,182 are admitted in various health facilities while 7,142 are in the Home-based Isolation and Care.

Distribution

In the counties’ distribution, Nairobi leads with 229 cases, Mombasa 46, Kiambu 22, Busia 18, Uasin Gishu 15, Kajiado 12, Machakos 12, Murang'a 9, Meru 9, Kisii 9, Kilifi 6, Nyeri 4, Kirinyaga 4, Embu 3, Kisumu 3, Laikipia 3, Kericho 2 and Marsabit 2, Homa Bay, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Kitui all recorded one case each.

In terms of sub-county distribution, the 299 cases in Nairobi, are from Lang'ata (29), Westlands (17), Embakasi West (16), Dagoretti North (15), Embakasi South and Kasarani cases each, Kibra (13), Embakasi East and Makadara (12) cases each.

Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central, Kamukunji, Mathare, Roysambu, Ruaraka and Starehe had (11) cases each while Embakasi North (10) cases.

In Mombasa, the 46 cases are from Mvita (15), Jomvu (13), Nyali (8), Kisauni and Likoni (4) cases each and Changamwe (2)

In Kiambu, the 22 cases are from Thika (7), Kiambu town and Kikuyu (5) cases each, Juja and Ruiru (20 cases each amd Kiambaa (1) case.

In Busia, the 18 cases are from Teso North (10), Matayos and Teso South (4) cases each.
