One reason why the Japanese have a longer life expectancy in the world is their type food and eating habits. The number of fast food restaurants can be counted and are not even available in some towns.
If you visit a Japanese home, you will be offered more green tea, as opposed to coffee, cocoa or normal tea, usually without sugar, unless you request for some. Method of food preparation, including the world-renowned Sushi delicacy, is hardly cooked, let alone using oil.
The Japanese are recognised as a fish-eating population with low incidence of diseases such as breast cancer, diabetes or heart ailments. This makes them have a trim appearance. However, these advantages are not as a result of eating fish, but rather because they eat a diet based on rice, with lots of vegetables.
Fish is eaten only as a condiment. Like all animal protein, fish is also high in cholesterol, hence feeding on fish, is the same as eating beef, pork or chicken, and can cause predictable increases in blood cholesterol to levels that are virtually the same. Therefore, the belief that fish is healthier because it is white meat is only a fallacy.
The Japanese will enjoy and eat their fish in small portion and not even as a protein. They avoid all kinds of meat, whether red or white. The fish is mainly raw and even then, only a small piece will be taken, with lots of vegetables and steam rice. Unfortunately, the younger generation are slowly being influenced by other cultures, and have started eating meat dishes.
