UK sides beat locals in junior friendlies

Visiting Lichfield Cricket Club of the United Kingdom won their two international friendly matches against Coast Development under-17 and under-19 at Mombasa Sports Club.

On Saturday, the under-17 team beat the Coast Development side by 14 runs.

The Britons won the toss and went to bat in the 50 over game setting a target of 256 for seven with R Stevens and S Fielding scoring 74 and 45 runs.

T Crawford, C Heanan and T Taylor bagged 29, 24 and 14. In bowling, brothers Ray and Vinit Shikotora had 49 runs and 28 for 1, and Neel Shah 43/3 and 38/2 for Arjun Kotecha.

In reply, the Costal boys were 242 all out with Jignesh Hiran hitting 101. Other contributors were Kunal Bhudia (39), Rajive Suthira (23), Neel Shah (18) and Niley Thaker (16).

Bowlers for the Britons were T-West 49/2, J Lidd 27/1, S. Tailor 17/2 and T Slater 12/1.

In the other 40 over match for under-19 on Sunday, the visitors won by 76 runs.

They batted first to set 251 for six with R Simms hitting 48 runs and S Fielding bagged 41 runs. R Stone and T Slater tied on 31 runs, while R Stevens had 40 runs not out. Bowlers Bipin had 63/2 while Bhaviya Thaker had 55/1. Ray Shikotora and Neel Shah had 35/1 and 35/2.

Chasing the target, the local boys were 175 all out with Niley Thaker and Himanshu Kanabar blasting 61 and 36 runs. Bhaviya Thaker had 22 runs while Yuraj Sanjay was at 16 not out.

Bowlers for the Britons were S Taylor 24/1, Chuck 19/1 and S Fielding 12/5.
