Covid-19: Kenya records 20 new cases, 70 recoveries in last 24 hours

Kenya has so far administered 5,639,952 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, 3,793,864 have been partially vaccinated while 1,846,088 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 45.6 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 6.8 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.

Kenya also recorded 20 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,136 raising the country's caseload to 253,853.

In a statement on Monday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 0.6 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,741,836.

Out of the new patients, 11 are male, whereas nine are female, with the youngest carrier being a two-year-old child, and the oldest aged 89.

Of the new cases, one is a foreigner while the rest are Kenyans.


In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 8 cases, Uasin Gishu 3, Bungoma, Embu, Kajiado, Kisumu, Migori and Murang’a 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll still stands at 5,312 after no deaths were reported from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 247,370 after 70 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 55 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 15 patients are from health facilities across the country.

Of the total recoveries, 199,830 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 47,540 are from various hospitals countrywide.


A total of 402 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,093 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Thirty-three (33) patients are in the ICU, 18 of whom are on ventilatory support and 15 on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 112 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 112 of them in the general wards while no patient in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
