Kenya has today recorded 117 Covid-19 positive cases from a sample size of 6,004 tested in the last 24 hours.
The positivity rate is now at 2 per cent. Of the cases, 110 are Kenyans while seven are foreigners. Sixty-three are men while 54 are women.
The youngest is a four-month-old child while the oldest is 91 years.
This comes as President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the lifting of the 10pm-4am Covid-19 curfew which was set in place in March last year to curb the disease spread.
During Mashujaa Day celebrations at Wang’uru stadium in Kirinyaga, Uhuru said the move follows a review of the containment measures by the National Emergency Response Committee and the National Security Council.
A statement from the Health ministry signed by CS Mutahi Kagwe said the total confirmed positive cases are now 252,308 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,654,013.
In terms of county distribution; Nairobi led with 18 cases, followed by Kericho 9, Nakuru 8, Mombasa 7, Nyandarua 7, Bomet 7, Bungoma 7, Siaya 5, Baringo 5, Makueni 5, Kiambu 4, and Kisii 4.
Today 209 patients recovered from the disease with 116 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme, while 93 are from various health facilities countrywide.
The total recoveries now stand at 245,786 of whom 198,544 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 47,242 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Kagwe said five patients succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative deaths to 5,238.
A total of 528 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,493 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.
Thirty-two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 18 of whom are on ventilatory support and 14 on supplemental oxygen.
Another 167 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 166 being in the general wards. One patient is in the High Dependency Units (HDU).
As of October 19, a total of 4,674,897 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.
Of these, 3,379,842 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,295,055.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was 36.7 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 4.8 per cent.
The government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033. Nairobi county is the highest with 32.1 per cent of its population receiving the first dose while Marsabit county is the least with 1.4 per cent.
Nairobi County is in the lead with 15.1 per cent of the population fully vaccinated followed by Nyeri county 12.4 per cent, Kiambu 7.6, Uasin Gishu with 7.2, Nyandarua 6.4, Kisumu 5.9, and Mombasa 5.6.
