Ministry reports 789 new infections, 21 deaths in the last 24 hours

The country has recorded 789 new Covid-19 infections from a sample size of 5, 498 in the last 24 hours, Ministry of Health reports.

This pushes the country’s total caseload to 220,727 since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

The positivity rate today is 14.4 per cent up from yesterday’s 13.8 per cent.

According to the Ministry of Health, 21 more patients were reported dead on Sunday, August 15, bringing the total fatalities to 4,340.

“All of them (21 fatalities) are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in June, July and August 2021,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe’s statement read in part.

However, 1, 550 more Covid-19 patients recovered from the virus: 1, 426 from home based care and self-isolation and 124 others from various health facilities countrywide.

This brings the total recoveries to 203, 922.

Kagwe says some 9,672 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 1,971 are admitted in various health facilities and 134 more are in the ICU.

Only 2.7 per cent of the adult population is fully vaccinated, with at least 2,033,277 vaccines administered as of August, 14 2021. 

Nairobi still reports the majority of the cases, 308, followed closely by Kitui with 88 new infections, Kiambu 54, Uasin Gishu 50, Nyeri 48, Machakos 39, Kajiado 34, Nakuru 30, Murang’a 25, Marsabit 16, Bungoma 11, Tana River 10.

The remaining counties had less than ten new infections.
