Covid-19: Kenya records 801 cases as positivity rate rises to 13.2 pc

Kenya on Thursday, July 22 recorded 801 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 5,850 raising the country's caseload to 195,111.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 13.7 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,074,610.

Out of the new patients, 426 are male, whereas 375 are female, with the youngest carrier aged one, and the oldest aged 98.

Of the new cases, 17 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi 319, Mombasa 77, Kilifi 71, Nakuru 60, Uasin Gishu 45, Kiambu 36, Makueni 28, Machakos 17, Siaya 12, Kajiado 11, Nyandarua 11, Kericho 11, Homa Bay 10, Nyeri 9, Taita Taveta 9, Murang’a 9, Kisumu 9, Kirinyaga 8, Embu 5.

Laikipia 5, Lamu 5, Garissa 5, Bungoma 4, Kwale 4, Turkana 4, Migori 3, Nandi 3, Nyamira 3, Kisii 2, Kitui 2, Narok 1, Baringo 1, Bomet 1 and Marsabit 1.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,826 after 15 patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

The total recoveries so far stand at 184,461 after 452 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 322 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 159 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 147,158 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 37,303 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,248 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 3,862 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and thirty-five (135) patients are in the ICU, 38 of whom are on ventilatory support and 70 on supplemental oxygen. Twenty-seven (27) patients are on observation.

Another 356 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 320 of them in general wards and 36 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has at July 22, 2021, administered 1,648,869 vaccines across the country.

Of these, the total first doses are 1,042,455 while the second doses are 606,414.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 189,466, Others 173,767, Health Workers 108,874, Teachers 86,259 while Security Officers are at 48,048.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 58.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.2 per cent.
