21 more Kenyans die of Covid-19 raising death toll to 2,330

Kenya’s positivity rate is now at 12.4 per cent, going by the latest numbers.

In a press statement on Saturday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 21 more Kenyans have died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

According to the CS, five of the deaths occurred in the last month, while 16 are late death reports from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates. The total fatalities since March 2020 when the first case was confirmed in Kenya now stand at 2,330.

CS Kagwe said 1, 030 people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 8,316 in the last 24 hours, pushing the national caseload to 145,184. Of the confirmed cases, 995 are Kenyans, while 35 are foreigners; 498 are females and 532 males. The youngest is a 10-month-old baby while the oldest is aged 99.

1,616 patients are admitted to various healthcare facilities across the country, while 4,243 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. Some 247 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of whom 46 are on ventilatory support,170 are on supplemental oxygen, and 31 on observation.

In terms of sub-county distribution, Nairobi leads in infections with 401 cases. Nandi registered (17), Nakuru (68), Kirinyaga (11), Kiambu (64), Machkos (51) and Mombasa (51).
