How to deal with the Mpeketoni attack

Relationships

The recent Mpeketoni attack in Kenya has left many people homeless, bereaved and psychologically traumatized.  It is really saddening seeing women, children and the elderly devastated and hopeless. The men on the other hand are meant to protect their families but it gets to a point whereby they are helpless themselves. The question we are left asking ourselves is, ‘What are we to do next?’ As Kenyans, this is what we should do:

Stick together as one

There is so much going round about the high level of insecurity in Kenya that it leaves most people wondering what the next step will be. As Kenyans, we should strive to be one. At the end of the day, we are Kenyans and Kenya is our beloved country. What we need to do is be on the lookout for people who want to divide us. We need to report this very people to the relevant authorities.

Take time and pray

There is always power in prayer. We should hold hands and pray for our country. In addition, we should pray for the very individuals who were affected in the Mpeketoni attack. This is not the time to condemn but a time to humble ourselves in prayer. Millions of Kenyan women came out to pray for this beautiful country. They have been on their knees every morning at 3:00am. They will be praying and fasting until 4th July 2014.  You may also join these ladies.

Help where you can

If you are in a position to help the affected families in any way, kindly do so. It may be in form of money, food, clothing or housing.   Red Cross has been in the frontline offering their services to the Mpeketoni victims. We applaud them for their continued support.

Avoid spreading propaganda

Politicians should not use the Mpeketoni attack as an avenue of airing their political differences. What leaders need to do is come together so as to find out the real cause of the attack. It is from the findings that we will be able to know the way forward. Kenya is our pride and joy. We pray and believe that all will be well, peace will prevail above all else.
