The correct way to wash your bras

It’s highly unlikely that anyone really looks forward to laundry day – be it handwashing or machine-washing. The process of separating colours and fabrics, followed by the hanging or tumble drying process is not the most fun chore.

All-in-all, you should pay keen attention to bras. If you’re the type of person who throws all your dirty clothes into a washing machine, the sad news is that your bras need to be hand-washed. You should, ideally, wash your bras after two to three wears.

Undergarments are more delicate than most pieces of clothing and you need to wash them correctly in order for them to be perfectly clean and to last longer.

Here are three quick steps to effectively washing your bras

Soak the bra

Some bras take a while to fully absorb water when washed under running water. To properly saturate your bra, soak it in a sink or basin of water and a little detergent for thirty minutes. Doing this will make the steps that follow much easier for you.

Gently rub/scrub

To avoid deforming the shape of the bra cups, gently rub the fabric to remove sweat and dirt. Parts of the bra where the underwire runs under the fabric tend to look dirtier than the rest of the bra. To properly wash those areas, use an old toothbrush to gently scrub those hard-to-reach parts of the undergarment.

Rinse and hang

Finally, you want to correctly rinse and hang your bra. Rinse it in cool water, until the water runs clear. Instead of wringing your bra to get the excess water out, cover it with a towel and press it gently.

You also want to ensure that you hang your bra correctly. The best way to do this is to hang it across the centre parting that separates the two cups. Hanging it by its straps will make it loose and distort the cups.

If you could choose any age, to stay in for the rest of your life, which would it be?
