Weddings are one of the most awaited and anticipated events in our lives. It is meant to be a celebration that brings a man and a woman together as one before God and their loved ones. It is usually a celebration of life, love and commitment.

Most people dream of a lavish wedding but only a few can afford it. Weddings are considered an expensive affair and for this reason, one needs to budget well.

Considering how extravagant these affairs can be, they call for lots of money, proper planning and of outmost importance, security. Considering who’s who in society will be in attendance, extra measures have to be put in place and this isn’t cheap.

Well, for you it isn’t but for these celebrities and public figures with millions at their disposal, the sky is the limit.

Here are some of the most expensive celebrity weddings of all time.

Prince Charles and Diana Spencer

Although the couple got divorced in 1996, the wedding between Prince Charles and Diana is still arguably one of the most expensive wedding to date. Valued at present time it would cost around $110 million. Broadcast to over 700 million worldwide viewers, many remember her gown which had 10,000 pearls and a 25 foot train. The 1981 wedding had 3500 attendees and no other celebration has come close.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

As is the norm for celebrities more so royals to never compromise on security, the couple are said to have spent an estimated $43 million on snipers, undercover policemen, military equipment and drones. Considering they spent $71,600 on a lemon elderflower cake, it comes as no surprise their nuptials cost a whopping $45 million.

Prince William and Kate Middleton

Dubbed as the ‘wedding of the century,’ the 2011 wedding brought the world to a standstill. The royal wedding was held at Westminster Abbey and cost a cool $34million. It is reported that their two receptions cost about $800,000 with a groom’s cake and a traditional white buttercream wedding cake at $80,000 dollars. The security detail alone is said to have cost them $32 million.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Saying ‘I do’ for the third time to rapper Kanye West, the extravagant celebration is estimated to have cost around $2.8 million. Mind you, this is exclusive of flights, hotel stays and the French leg of the event. Their most expensive itinerary was hiring Bocelli and the rental of Forte di Belvedere in Italy for over $368,000. As is so Kim, the curvy beauty splurged on a Givenchy haute couture gown for $500,000.

Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky

The wedding was estimated to have cost $3 million which took place in Rhinebeck, New York. Chelsea did not hold herself back and had two gowns by designer Vera Wang at an estimated cost of $20,000. Being the daughter to former president Bill Clinton and her mother acting as Secretary of State at one point, hundreds of thousands were spent on security and during their wedding a no fly zone was declared.

Aleksey Shapovalov and Ksenia Tsaritsina

This was said to be a multi-million dollar affair in 2017 according to Bravo. The engagement ring alone costed $8 million which even now is still extravagant. Their cake was an eight-tier which was suspended midair. The bride wore two gowns, the first was an off shoulder beaded for the ceremony and a lacey gown with matching veil for the reception.

Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto

World renowned basket baller married model Yvette in 2013 in a lavish wedding that cost $10 million. The star studded wedding with 300 guests was one to behold. According to guests, the reception space felt heavenly with thousands of candles, crystal candelabras, white roses, peonies and tulips with purple accents adorning the space. Looking stunning, Yvette wore a J’Aton silk couture wedding dress with Swarovski crystals.

Lolita Osmanova and Gaspar Avdolyan

Lolita is the daughter of a Russian big shot who got married to a millionaire’s son and their wedding is estimated to have cost $10 million. For the venue alone, the couple spent $500,000 which included a golden isle. Who wouldn’t want such a wedding?

Angelababy and Huang Xioming

Hong Kong born actress and singer Angela Yeung Wing better known by her stage name Angelababy, exchanged vows in an extravagant ceremony that set them back $31 million. Said to be the ‘Kim Kardashian’ of China, she wedded actor Huang Xiaoming. This renowned socialite wore a custom made Dior gown said to be one of the most expensive wedding dresses ever. The live streamed wedding that took place in 2015 had a ten-foot cake shaped like a carousel.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

In 2012, the couple exchanged vows at a private Italian ceremony for $6.5 million. Walking down the aisle in a Giambattista Valli couture gown, Justin sang for his beautiful bride in the presence of their 100 guests. The reception took place at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Puglia with the celebrations lasting for a whole a week hence the hefty bill.
