Revellers decry state of accommodation facilities at Nyege Nyege festival

The much-anticipated Nyege Nyege Festival kicked off in Uganda on Thursday but a section of revellers is far from pleased with the accommodation facilities.

Taking to social media, a number of adventure-hungry party-goers who travelled to the shores of River Nile to be part of the event said organisers promised quality cottages in some areas but they were shocked to find cardboard shacks lacking proper sanitary facilities.

It all started when one @danx_tusiime shared some pictures of the said cottages, revealing that they do not have water and the doors cannot be locked.

"This is the cottage. No power! No water! No toilet! No shower! No lock on the doors! These cottages sold out! Wow @NyegeNyegeFest

"#Scam! Imagine people are flying in to find this! You guys," she tweeted.

She went ahead to share photos of the cottages that were promised, a stark contrast from what revellers saw on day one.

According to organisers of the festival, there is on-site and off-site accommodation.

Those who wish to camp at the site have several options including; Purple Pine Camp, Khapela South African Village, Rapids View Camp, Bring Your Own Forest Camp and Nyege Nyege Wooden Cottages.

The Purple Pine is a private camp in a shaded pine forest overlooking the river and a tent here can comfortably accommodate two adults. It also comes with two mattresses but revellers are expected to carry their bedding. It goes for roughly Sh8000.

The Khapela Village has around 100 tents and each tent can accommodate two people. Described as lockable with a touch of South African flare, they also come wiith LED lamps, showers and toilets, complete with 24-hour security. It goes for Sh30,293.

Rapids View Camp, which is already sold out, has 200 well-spaced tents which can accommodate two people and they come with a double air mattress and two pillows.

At the Bring Your Own Forest Camp, revellers can come with their own tents and gear and set up anywhere in the area. At just Sh2600, one can enjoy the facility which is just three minutes from Nyege Nyege Beach.

The Nyege Nyege Wooden Cottages were already sold out at the time of publishing but each can house two people, is fully lockable and has a charging spot for electronic gadgets.
