Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has changed tune on how he will deal with rogue boda boda riders in Nairobi.
The Governor has directed a team from the city inspectorate department to identify suitable pick-up and drop-off points for the riders within seven days to restore order within the city centre.
"Once we establish the locations and anyone goes against it, I don't want to see any call from anyone trying to convince me otherwise," Sakaja said.
The Governor was speaking when he presided over the release of over 200 motorcycles that were impounded by the County over various offenses.
"I urge the inspectorate to find a way of identifying the genuine owners of the bikes in case someone shows up without a logbook and identity card as required," Governor Sakaja said.
Initially, the county had suggested bodaboda riders use Kirinyaga Road, University Way, Uhuru Highway, Haile Selassie Avenue and Racecourse Road so as to avoid the central business district.
Last year, the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) threatened to auction some 193 unclaimed motorcycles that were impounded in the city after the owners failed to show up to claim them with legal documents.
