President Uhuru Kenyatta has addressed Mike Sonko’s remarks over the presidency which he made during the burial of the husband of former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti.
In the remarks, Sonko claimed that since President Uhuru Kenyatta had flown to Togo for a State visit and his deputy, William Ruto was in France, he was therefore ‘ the acting President,'
While addressing the Governance Summit at State House on Tuesday 18th, the President brushed away the comments as a non-issue.
“Don’t be bothered by small things; don’t bother about what people say in weddings and funerals. I have in only one occasion left the office of President. So whether I’m in Togo, I am still the President of the Republic of Kenya.”
He further explained that it is only that time when he travelled to the ICC at the Hague that occasioned the existence of an acting President.
“Only once I have I left Presidency… and I signed a paper leaving my deputy to act as President.” He said.
“…So this is the President speaking from Nairobi …” He concluded.
President Uhuru’s remarks come a day after the Nairobi senator presented himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The visit to the DCI had preceded a directive by Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko for the police and DCI to investigate the Senator over the statement he made on Friday in Machakos County.
