National hospital insurance fund (NHIF) should use members’ contributions to help research in medicine and equipment, improve national hospitals, improve the welfare of health workers and buy modern medicines and equipment. The general infrastructure of national hospitals should also be enhanced.
In addition, the NHIF should investigate what Kenya lacks in terms of medicine and equipment and offer better remuneration to healthcare employees which will translate to better healthcare for Kenyans.
Also NHIF should advocate for conferences to deliberate on herbal and emerging medicine and equipment in Kenya. It is a shame that in this age and time NHIF still promises Kenyans that they will be taken for treatment aboard while many universities train doctors and nurses. This comes in the wake of Kenyans paying dearly in their monthly contributions for healthcare. It is an insult to injury.
The world is a global village, and whatever is happening in other countries can be known easily concerning healthcare. Why don't we equip our hospitals fully instead of having other priorities and yet Kenyans are dying of treatable diseases? Why are they collecting money in the first place if they cannot treat sick Kenyans and provide better healthcare. Let managers heading such organizations be men and women of integrity and knowledge and who should be ready to make Kenya disease free. They should be ready to forge Kenya ahead so that we can attain sustainable millennium goals and visionaries.
