David Beckham has posted a moving tribute to the victims of the horrific Paris attacks on Instagram.

The star led a stream of celebrities who came together today in shock to send their support to the city and the families of those who were killed in the devastating attacks.

Sharing a snap of the sun over the city, the former footballer posted an emotional message.

He wrote: "As the sun rises in this beautiful city we remember the people that have died and the families that have lost loved ones... Our thoughts are with you all... PrayForParis".

Taylor Swift has also posted her thoughts surrounding the tragic events.

The singer posted a snap of her staring out over the river as she wrote: "Praying for Paris. Our hearts are breaking for and with you."

And Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, whose husband Jean-Bernard is French, wrote: "Words fail me."

Meanwhile French footballer Thierry Henry posted that he was "appalled" at the attrocities.

Celebrities, politicians and sports personalities flocked to Twitter to offer their thoughts and prayers to everyone involved in what's being described as the deadliest violence to hit France since World War 2.

#Prayers4Paris featured in thousands of tweets that flooded the social media site on Friday as it emerged at least 140 people lost their lives after a series of shootings and explosions in the French capital.

Dozens of celebrities shared pictures of a peace sign made to look like the Eiffel tower and also pictures of the French flag alongside messages.
