Arsene Wenger threatens to walk out of Arsenal press conference over Mourinho comment

Arsene Wenger threatened to walk out of his press conference after the Arsenal manager lost his temper.

Wenger was fuming at repeated questions about his selection of David Ospina over Petr Cech for Arsenal’s midweek Champions League defeat to Olympiakos.

But Wenger really lost his cool when thrown a question about Jose Mourinho suggesting he was the only manager not under pressure in the Premier League.

Sky Sports’ Andy Burton asked: “Was Jose Mourinho right when he says there’s only one manager not under pressure?”

Wenger, renowned for his bitter rivalry with Mourinho, snapped: “Stop that story or we stop the press conference.”

Wenger has very rarely lost his cool in press conferences, snapping in the past over his bust-ups with Mourinho, Sir Alex Ferguson and even threatening to walk out when quizzed about a bust-up with ex-Spurs boss Martin Jol.

But Wenger was clearly incensed by the continual criticism of his team selection for the Champions League defeat in midweek and, in particular, his decision to pick Ospina.

“Stop that question or we stop the press conference."

Wenger said: “Look I don’t want to come back on that. All that’s been said in the press conference. I don’t change a word of what I said.

“Looking at Ospina and Petr Cech, I think I have two world-class goals and it’s the easiest choice I have to make because I can pick any of the two and I am very comfortable.

“It’s the most difficult as well because both are two world-class players and always you have to leave one out.”

Wenger was then asked about his feisty press conference on Tuesday night when he insisted he should not be questioned on his selection as there were things journalists did not know.

When asked today what he had meant, Wenger said: “Like I don’t know anything that you do in your job. You make decisions and you have more information than I have and it’s exactly the same in my job.

“You come to the came and assess. Was I right or wrong. I never criticise that. I accept your judgment of how the team played and your assessment. But I don’t have to give you all the information regarding my decisions.”
