Mutula Jnr exudes confidence of clinching seat

By Daniel Nzia  and Onemus Nzioka

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared Mutula Kilonzo Junior to contest the Makueni senatorial seat.

Mutula Jnr, the Wiper candidate, was escorted to the IEBC centre at the Wote Catholic Multi Purpose Hall by Senators Johnstone Muthama, David Musila and James Orengo.

The team arrived at the centre at about 8am and were received by Returning Officer Guracha Boru and IEBC coordinator for Lower Eastern Ruth Kulundu and other officials.

Others in the CORD entourage were MPs Daniel Maanzo, Richard Makenga, Francis Nyenze, TJ Kajwang, Peter Mathuki (East African Legislative Assembly), Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, county women’s representative Rose Museo and TIP leader Kalembe Ndile.

Speaking after he was issued with the IEBC nomination certificate, Mutula Jnr said he was not afraid of his opponents who had been in the campaign trail for long.

“Kutangulia sio kufika,” declared the youthful Mutula.

He assured voters that they have nothing to fear because he is validly registered and will vote at Uma Primary School in Mbooni Constituency. Mutula Jnr said his late entry into the race does not disadvantage him in any way because Wiper is popular in Makueni.

Asked if he was ridding on his sister Kethi Kilonzo’s  popularity, Mutula Jnr replied, “I am ridding on so many things. I am riding on the goodwill of Makueni voters, am riding on my own self, name them,” he said.

Muthama, the Machakos County Senator, said he is confident Makueni people will vote for Mutula Jnr overwhelmingly. Kajwang, who represented Kethi in her case against the IEBC tribunal ruling barring her from contesting the seat, urged Makueni people to vote for Mutula Jnr in large numbers.
